Gokyo Trekking is one of the most famous treks in Nepal with Paranoiac view of different Mountains. Gokyo trek is in the lap of the base camp. It is cover by the amazing lakes. It is located in Khumjung village of Sagarmatha Zone. Sagarmatha National Park is at the altitude of 4,700–5,000 m (15,400–16,400 ft) above sea level. Gokyo lake water is naturally fresh, and their taste and views were amazing. These lakes are deeper than previously assumed by the researchers. This lake is spread in the area of 196.2 ha (485 acres). this lake lies on the head of the Dudhkoshi.

Gokyo is one of the most popular tourist destinations leading towards the Sagarmatha base camp. This trek is commonly hike by people with slightly more time to trek. As the trail is 4 days longer than the standard EBC trek. The Gokyo Lakes trek also has the added benefit of being a circular route as oppose to the standard EBC trek which returns along the same trail.

What to Bring / Take

Some Important Information to Tourist: Don’t or Do’s

  • A tourist may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year (January 1-December 31).
  • A tourist may extend his / her visa before expiry of the visa validity period.
  • A tourist who does not comply with these regulations may be liable of fine and other prosecution as provided in Immigration Act and Rules.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Our representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and then transfer you to your hotel. You will be briefed about trekking and each day program. Permits & TIMS will be handover to you either the same day of arrival or the next day.

Day 2: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2610m)

You take an early morning flight to Lukla (where all Everest treks begin). The flight is about 40 minutes to reach Lukla and then we have to trek around 4-5 hours to reach Phakding. We walk on a trail that gradually descends to Chheplung village from where we get a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila, a sacred mountain which has never been climbed. From here, we gradually descend until Phakding passing through the small village of Ghat.

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

The trek to Namche Bazaar is about 6-7 hours. Our trail passes through a pine forest and we continue our walk on the trail that goes north up the Bengkar valley (2630m). We cross Dudh Koshi River and pass Chumoa and Monjo villages before reaching the entrance of the Everest National Park. At Monju (2840m), you have to show your Everest National Park Permit and TIMS Card. After complete register of trekking permit and TIMS card, we pass Jorsale (2740m) village and walk alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. We ascend on a steep trail and reach Namche Bazaar which is probably the biggest town in the Everest region. Before reaching Namche, we can see Mt Everest from ‘Top Danda’ depending on the weather.

Day 4: Rest Day / Acclimatization Day

Namche Bazaar is Sherpa Capital of Solu Khumbu region and visits Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center. There is plenty to do around Namche Bazaar and should spend a day here acclimatizing. There are also trek to the surrounding villages of Khumjung (3780m); these short day walks are designed to give us time to get used to high-altitude trekking. This is the first opportunity to catch a glimpse of the peak of awesome Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world and the other Himalayas such as Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde and so on.

Day 5: Trek to Dole (4200m)

After Namche Bazar, we climb steeply up to Kyangjuma (3550m) village from where; we can enjoy outstanding views of Thamserku, Kantenga, and Ama Dablam. Along with the views, we pass the Mong La, a very charming place perched on the spur of Mt. Khumbila. An ancient historical Chorten stands at the center of the settlement of Mong La. We admire the grandstand views of surrounding snow-capped mountains and valleys. We pass through forests, some waterfalls and bridges, we reach Dole; a small part place with few teahouses.

Day 6: Trek to Machherma (4470m)

Today, from Dole we climb steadily along the side of the valley, where the small and thorny bushes give way to scrub juniper as the altitude increases. The trail passes many summer settlements. We climb a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kengtegaand up towards Cho Oyu and descend to a river and again climbs a step to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier.

Day 7: Trek to Gokyo (4790m)

This is the trek to reach one of the main destinations, Gokyo, following one of the melting-water Rivers which flow down from the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. We climb a steep rocky path inclined into the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first of the holy lakes. We can see the Dudh Pokhari Lake and on its eastern shore lays the settlement of Gokyo.

Day 8: Excursion Gokyo Lake & Climb Gokyo-Ri (5360m)

Gokyo is a trade center where the Sherpa people run lodges to provide their best services to the trekkers going through this area. Gokyo is situated by the side of Ngozumpa glacier, said to be the biggest glacier in Nepal. So, this day is to rest at Gokyo and do some excursions in and around the Gokyo valley. We can make a side trip to Fifth Lake via the forth Lake. Then, we will climb Gokyo-Ri where we get stunning views of the super Gokyo Valley. As we climb, the summits of Everest, Lhotse and, Makalu, Cho Oyu slowly come into sight and the view from the summit of Gokyo Ri itself is one of the finest to behold in the Everest region.

Day 9: Trek, Gokyo – Renjo Pass (5340m) – Marling (4210m)

Today’s trek is to reach Murlung via Renjo Pass which is situated at an altitude of 5340m which is little hard to pass. We follow Gokyo valley downward, departing the main trail and turning towards the pass. Then, we reach the top of Renjo La from where we are welcomed by the views of Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taboche. And we descend down to Malang following the east bank of Bhote Koshi River and stay overnight.

Day 10: Trek to Thame (3820m)

We cross the Bhote Koshi down from Murlung. The trek passes through several yak pasture and grazing area, crossing the valley of Langmuche Khola River and reach the village of Thame, a gateway to Tibet side through the Nangpa-La north of Thame.

Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazaar

We pass through a check post today before arriving at the world’s loftiest hydroelectric power station, which provides electricity for most of the upper Khumbu region. We pass gompas, prayer flags, mani walls, and shortens on the route to Namche Bazaar.

Day 12: Trek to Lukla

We begin our trek from Namche Bazaar today on rocky terrain.  It is mostly a downhill trek on a trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We cross several suspension bridges, pass by several monasteries and villages before reaching Lukla. After reaching Lukla we take rest as today will be the last day on the mountains.

Day 13: Fly, Lukla – Kathmandu

We catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. After reaching Kathmandu, you can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If you want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, you may do that today.

Day 14: Departure

Today is the last day of our memorable trip. You are free until your airport reporting time and we take you to the airport for outbound flight back to your destination.
